Significant Sigma Kappas in Humanities
Betty Jo Peacock Hay, Sigma, was president of the
National Mental Health Association in 1986. She has received such
honors as the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health Award, Women Helping
Women Award, Mental Health Association in Texas Honoree, Public Citizen
of the Year, and other awards for her contributions to higher education
and children's mental health.

Fay Burnett, Sigma, was the first nutritionist for Weight
Watchers International. She wrote their first maintenance plan.
Thousands used it as a guide to maintain their normal weight after
their proper weight loss. |

Ashley Henderson Huff, Epsilon Epsilon, a First Lieutenant in the United States Army was the first known sorority casualty in the current conflict in Iraq. |

Marilyn York, Theta,
worked as Homemaker, Mother and Wife, architect and as an active
volunteer in her church as a Sunday School teacher for 44 years. She
was a member or leader of many community and philanthropic boards and
fundraising positions, including the American Heart Association and the
American Cancer Society. For more than four decades, Marilyn York was
an active Sigma Kappa alumna. She served as president of the Detroit
Area Sigma Kappa Alumnae Association for several terms. From that
position she moved on to leadership positions and multiple terms as
president of the Detroit Area Panhellenic Society. Marilyn R. York was
a wonderful example of living a long life of the Sigma Kappa values of
personal growth, friendship, service and loyalty.
